Our Journey

Hyperikon® began with a bold vision – to revolutionize lighting using the nascent technology of LEDs. Since our start over 10 years ago, we have been dedicated to realizing that vision.

Humble Beginnings

Hyperikon® was founded in Los Angeles, California in 2009 by two longtime friends, Chris Rodriguez and Dong Tran. Chris and Dong first met during college while studying engineering and had always dreamed of starting a business together.

When the LED lighting industry was just emerging, Chris and Dong recognized the vast disruptive potential of this technology. They decided to leverage their engineering background and entrepreneurial drive to make LED lighting available to the masses.

Out of their small one-bedroom apartment, Chris and Dong got to work building Hyperikon®‘s foundation. They invested countless late nights researching, tinkering, and designing early prototypes.

Rapid Growth

After a year of development, Hyperikon® finally launched its first LED light in 2010 – a 6W LED bulb. While humble compared to today’s products, it was one of the most advanced residential LED bulbs at the time. And it marked the official beginning of our journey.

The LED bulb was a hit, and Hyperikon® was off and running. We rapidly expanded our catalog with more LED bulbs, specialty commercial lighting, and outdoor area lights.

Our early growth was accelerated by our close supplier partnerships. Our suppliers provided invaluable assistance and access to the latest LED technology to help us keep innovating.

In just 3 years, we had outgrown the apartment and moved manufacturing and fulfillment to a dedicated facility. We also invested heavily in new lab equipment, testing procedures, and an expanded research team to maintain our industry leadership.

Continued Expansion

Over the next several years, Hyperikon® experienced tremendous growth as LED adoption accelerated globally. We widened our product lineup to offer LED solutions for more settings. We also began serving commercial projects for major retailers, hotels, restaurants, and offices.

Overseas demand for our LED lighting products also skyrocketed. We expanded internationally with a European headquarters and warehouses to provide timely local fulfillment.

Recognizing shifting lighting needs, we pioneered smart LEDs with wireless controls, tunable white temperature, and integration with smart home platforms. Our focus on innovation positioned us as a leader in connected lighting.

Today, our expansive California headquarters houses modern labs, manufacturing facilities, and a bustling team of over 100 employees. While we have grown significantly, our passion, values, and dedication to our customers remains the same.

Chris Rodriguez, Co-Founder & CEO

Chris’ entrepreneurial spirit and engineering background enabled him to recognize the huge potential of LEDs for revolutionizing lighting. He bootstrapped Hyperikon® from his apartment and has led its rapid growth while preserving a culture of innovation. Chris holds a BS in Electrical Engineering.

Dong Tran, Co-Founder & CTO

As the technology visionary of Hyperikon®, Dong built the early prototypes and established the company as a pioneer in bringing LED lighting technology to the mainstream market. He drives our product R&D and LED advancements. Dong has a degree in Computer Engineering.

Sarah Chen, Director of Product

Sarah leads our product team in developing market-leading residential and commercial LED lighting. She has been instrumental in the launch of our smart lighting lines and best-in-class outdoor products. Sarah has a Business and Marketing degree.

Brian Thompson, Director of Sales

Brian started in sales at Hyperikon® over 5 years ago and has expanded the sales organization nationally and internationally. He has a talent for building strong customer relationships and understanding customer needs to drive growth. Brian studied Business Administration.
